In Loving Memory of Mr. Carlton Rainey

Carlton Lemoyne Rainey was born in Morrilton, Arkansas on September 16, 1956, to the union of Carl and Icy Rainey. He was educated first through eighth grade at Center School and spent his high school years at Wonderview High, graduating in 1973. His peers remember him for his steady character, dependability, and friendly spirit. Carlton grew up in the Center Community, where he was raised with strong family values and a deep appreciation for hard work and community.

Carlton went on to dedicate many years of service to his community as a lifelong resident of Arkansas. As an adult, he called Plumerville, Arkansas home but briefly lived in Kansas City, Missouri after H.S. graduation. Through his work, he became known as a reliable and committed employee, taking pride in Rainey Logging. In addition to Rainey Logging, Carlton owned a dump truck business. He was known as a wizard with capable hands and earned multiple certificates in mechanics, electrical, and appliance repair. He was good at building and working on all types of machines including auto and home repairs. When his family, and many in the community needed assistance, Carlton was the first to receive a call.

Preceding him in death were his parents: Carl and Icy Rainey, daughter: Karla La’Mese Rainey, and two sisters: Stephanie (Larry) Bryant of Forrest City, AR and Cassondra Rainey of Cleveland, AR.

He is survived by two sons Marcus Canady of Greenbriar, Arkansas and Andre Byers of Washington D.C. He was the firstborn of Carl and Icy Rainey and is survived by 13 siblings. Ten Brothers Gerald (Coretta) Rainey of Bauxite, AR, Rev. Kerwin (Miltresa) Rainey of Cleveland, AR, Julian (Angela) Rainey of Little Rock, AR, Christopher Rainey of Conway, AR, Alfred (Ellen) Rainey of Tallahassee, FL, Dan Rainey of Cleveland, AR, Ronald (Jenel) Rainey of Little Rock, AR, Eric Rainey of Conway, AR, Timothy (Rhonda) Rainey of Little Rock, AR, and Paul (Amber) Rainey of Los Angeles, CA. Three sisters: Merdina (Harold) Nash of North Little Rock, AR, Charlotte (Kacy) Parham of Columbia, SC, and Laurinda Rainey of Philadelphia, PA. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 29 nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews.

Throughout his life, Carlton has been guided by faith, family, and a quiet strength that has earned him the respect of those who know him best. His story reflects dedication, perseverance, and the enduring values of home and heritage.
